I have been using Adobe Lightroom for several years. Most wedding photographers, that use Lightroom, use it improperly. The exposure slider should not be used for every photo. Their will be times when using the Brightness Slider will provide better results. The brightness slider will give you more control over your images under certain circumstances. The difference between the brightness and exposure sliders is subtle. You will find that the exposure takes priority on shifting the highlight range of a photo. Take a slightly underexposed photo and bump it up with the exposure slider. You may potentially blow out the highlights of the image. This is because the exposure slider increases the highlight are more than the rest of the tonal range. If you used the brightness slider, you will shift the tonal range evenly.
The same applies for photos that are overexposed and need to be darkened. The exposure sliders priority will be to lower the highlights more than the entire tonal range. Take a few under and over exposed images and test it out for yourself.
